A rota (also known as a duty roster or work rota) is a way to manage time and tasks efficiently. We normally set out a rota in a table or calendar format which allows control of what needs doing at any given time.
Rota can be made for many situations like cleaning rota for shared living, the household rota for chores, and work rota for business activities.
Rota has been historically created on pen & paper, then via spreadsheets. Modern companies which prioritize efficiency choose rota software to manage their workforce scheduling needs.
Rota schedule published just 3 or 5 days in advance, is too short a notice to employees.
It is recommended that a rota is published at least 2 weeks in advance. It allows the flexibility for employees to make plans and arrangements for family care and routines.

To enumerate, the best practices while to create a fair rota are –
1. Schedule consistent and predictable shifts for employees.
2. In the event of, shift changes, have rules for advanced notification.
3. Wherever possible, have backup staff to be flexible to adversities.
4. By and large, use a date-based approach to measure shift efficiency and decide future shifts.
5. Have a reliable medium of communication with employees. Having multiple mediums adds to uncertainty and confusion amongst employees.
Publish a fair rota policy and a grievance policy to ensure everyone has an equal distribution of rotas.
